- Message from our new EHPA President
I am very humbled and honoured to serve as President and congratulate other fellow Board Directors on their appointments, particularly Melissa Wilson as Vice President and Shannon McKiernan as Treasurer. I am really excited to be working closely with my fellow Board Directors who are all dedicated, hardworking environmental health professionals.
I would like thank our outgoing President, Sarah Annells for all her hard work and leadership over the last 3 years. Sarah achieved so much for our profession, one of the key highlights was leading the advocacy efforts for the continuation of EHOs to be qualified in Victoria at Swinburne University of Technology. Sarah will continue supporting EHPA as a Board Director.
Just a little bit about me, my day job is working with the Surf Coast Shire Council as the Coordinator Environmental Health based on the coast in Torquay, Victoria. I am a father of 3 young children with a loving and supporting wife. I have been an EHO working in Local Government for 17 years and completed a Diploma of Environmental Management, Bachelor Applied Science in Environmental Health at Swinburne University of Technology and a graduate of the Local Government Professionals Emerging Leaders Program 2015. I have been involved with EHPA as a Board Director, Barwon Southwest Region Community of Practice Secretary and Symposium Convenor. I am grateful for the opportunities and experiences these roles have provided me but more importantly allowed me to put back into the profession.
There are a number of challenges we are facing, non-more important than the invisibility of the environmental health profession within the general community. We need to find ways to raise our profile within the general community to ensure students entering university are aware of the profession.
The Board will be will undertaking a strategic planning day next month to review our business plan and confirm key activities and priorities.
If you have an idea or something to discuss please don’t hesitate to contact any of our Board Directors or myself.
