The EHPA Environment Special Interest Group is committed to promoting environmental awareness and improvements on the environment in Victoria through:

  • Promotion of best practice in environmental management
  • Reviewing current policy for the management of on-site domestic wastewater
  • Identification of avenues to strengthen partnerships with key stakeholders including providing representation on various committees
  • Lobbying Government to improve the effectiveness of tools available to public health professionals to resolve issues impacting on the environment.

The Environment SIG addresses issues such as pursuing best practice in domestic wastewater management, improving the quality of recreational water and improving storm water management.  Members of the Environment SIG represent a cross section of municipalities across Victoria.

EPA’s reviewed Guidelines for Environmental Management – Code of Practice Onsite Wastewater Management and related Australian Standards

At the end of April 2013 the EHPA Board submitted a formal report to the EPA with a summary of comments from EHPA members relating to the reviewed Guidelines for Environmental Management – Code of Practice Onsite Wastewater Management and related Australian Standards.

 

Second 2013 EHPA Environment SIG meeting

The second EHPA Environment SIG Meeting for 2013 took place in Whitehorse City Council on 20 May 2013. Items discussed included the EHPA submission to EPA’s reviewed Guidelines for Environmental Management – Code of Practice Onsite Wastewater Management, release of information on asbestos by ENHEALTH and ongoing developments in preparation for the Noise Management Workshop.

 

Noise Management Workshop 2013

The Noise Management Workshop 2013 was held in Knox City Council on 2 August 2013. With more than 60 participants, three sponsors and nine presentations covering various contemporary subjects, the event delivered opportunities for Environmental Health Professionals and other local government professionals to reflect on noise management issues and share experiences.

EHPA members now have the opportunity to access the contributions of the sponsors and presenters who authorised the contents of their presentations to be available on our website. Once you sign in the presentations will be available at ‘Member Resources/Workshop Proceedings/Noise/Noise Workshop 2 August 2013’.

The EHPA Environment SIG is inviting Environmental Health Practitioners to comment, on an ongoing basis, on the EPA’s reviewed Guidelines for Environmental Management – Code of Practice Onsite Wastewater Management and related Australian Standards. Comments should specify issues and/or additional information required, if any. Once comments are received, the EHPA Environment SIG would then be able to make recommendations to the board based on concerns of environmental health practitioners in relation to this reviewed code and consider possible approaches that should be addressed.
